Joints stiff and sore? There’s often more to the story…
Joint pain and stiffness can creep in slowly.
Maybe it’s your shoulder. Your knee. Your neck. Your hip.
You notice movement becoming harder. Exercising feels awkward. Sleep becomes difficult to come by because you can’t get comfortable. Even your mood can take a hit when your body constantly feels restricted.
And while it’s easy to focus only on the joint itself… there’s often more going on underneath.
Every joint relies on a group of muscles working together properly. (Your shoulder alone has 22 muscles supporting it!)
If even one of those muscles becomes “switched off” or under functions, the joint can start compensating — leading to pain, stiffness, weakness, or limited range of movement.
So why would a muscle switch off?
The body can respond to things like:
• Stress
• Awkward sleeping position or sitting posture
• Lymphatic congestion (often as a result of toxin exposure or lack of movement)
• Nutritional deficiencies
• Previous injury or compensation patterns
This is where I work a little differently. Using kinesiology, I perform what’s called a “joint protocol”.
This involves checking whether every muscle supporting that joint is fully energised and communicating properly with the brain and nervous system.
Then we ask the body what additional support it may need for that joint to function at its best. That may include specific exercises, adding in certain nutrients, supporting lymphatic drainage, just to name a few.
Sometimes the changes can be remarkable. Earlier this month, a client came in unable to lift her arm laterally to 90 degrees. By the end of the session, she could comfortably lift it right beside her ear!
The body has an incredible ability to respond when given the right support.
If pain, stiffness, or restricted movement has been affecting your daily life, it may be worth looking a little deeper.
